This privacy policy applies to the Travel Insight extension (“Extension”) for Chrome.

Information We Do Not Collect

The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data from users. It does not track your browsing activity or send any information to external servers beyond what is necessary for its core functionality.

How the Extension Works

When you click the Extension on a Booking.com or Expedia hotel page, it:

  • Reads the current page URL to detect the hotel
  • Extracts public hotel information (name, price, dates)
  • Sends the hotel name and location to our secure backend to fetch contact details (phone, website) via the Google Places API
  • Displays the result in the popup

All communication with our server is encrypted (HTTPS), and no user data (such as name, email, or booking details) is ever sent.

Why We Use a Backend

We use our own server to securely proxy Google Places API requests. This protects our API key and prevents abuse. The server only processes hotel names and coordinates and returns publicly available information.

Local Storage

The Extension uses chrome.storage.local to cache hotel data in your browser. This improves performance and allows the popup to work offline. All data is stored only on your device and is never shared.

Permissions Explained

  • activeTab: To read the current tab’s URL when you click the Extension
  • Booking.com / Expedia domains: To run scripts on hotel pages
  • Storage: To cache data locally
